NAMI : Families Working Together for Change
Purpose
To help families in crisis through mutual support and sharing of experiences.
To advocate for better treatment and needed services, includes suitable and affordable housing for persons with mental illness in the Bristol County Area.
To educate the public about mental illness and the needs of the people with a mental health condition in order to combat stigma associated with mental illness.
To work for increased funding for research into the cause and treatments of biochemically-based long term severe mental illnesses.
Activities
Provide educational programs, speakers and resource materials to members and the community.
Work with professionals in the field of mental illness to improve the quality of care and services.
Advocate for legislation affecting the mentally ill on the regional, state and federal levels.
Monitor both public and private providers of mental health care in the community
Maintain affiliation with and act as liaison between members and NAMI Massachusetts and NAMI National, The National Alliance on Mental Illness.
